Frequently Asked Questions
What courses does PSEI offer?
PSEI offers all 12 core courses necessary to meet the requirement for the Academic Concentration in Public Safety Administration™.
These courses are specifically targeted at the public safety field. While PSEI's courses are recommended for upper division college credit by
National PONSI, your bachelor's degree will be granted by Charter Oak State College.
Are the PSA (Public Safety Administration) program courses accredited?
All 12 PSA core courses are recommended for upper division college credit by the National Program On Noncollegiate Sponsored Instruction ("National PONSI"), a division of
the Board of Regents of The University of the State of New York and Charter Oak State College. The majority of accredited
colleges with adult learner programs recognize and accept the National PONSI college credit recommendation. This includes both state and private colleges and universities.
After I complete the PSA program, from whom do I get a Bachelor's Degree?
Your degree will be from Charter Oak State College, an internationally recognized, regionally accredited external degree institution that grants
Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees without residency requirements. All of the PSA courses are accepted at Charter Oak State
College toward a bachelor's degree because they carry credit recommendations from National PONSI. Charter Oak State College is
accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, the same accrediting body that accredits universities such as Harvard University and Boston College.
Can I get credit for professional experience?
Charter Oak State College grants credit for college-level experiential learning, based on its assessment policies. You may get credit for what you already know, through
portfolio evaluation, documentation of training and competency testing. COSC has a guide book and an assessment coordinator who will assist you with the Charter Oak State College portfolio process.
Can I use federal financial aid and/or employer tuition reimbursement programs?
Through PSEI's partnership with Charter Oak State College students may utilize federal financial aid programs and employer tuition reimbursement programs
to pay for PSA course work. All financial aid processing, tuition, and fees are handled by Charter Oak State College.
Are the PSA courses available on-line?
Yes, PSA courses are available in both an on-line and classroom format.
How do I apply for the PSA program?
