The Charter Oak State College Connection
Founded in 1973, Charter Oak State College is a public institution in the
Connecticut State College system. Charter Oak State College is accredited
by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, the same accrediting organization that accredits all major colleges and universities in the
Northeastern United States, including institutions such as Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Boston College.
Students at Charter Oak State College earn degrees by combining prior learning with personalized degree completion programs approved by
Charter Oak State College faculty. Charter Oak State College offers distance education courses and also recognizes and awards credit for classroom-based and distance learning courses
offered by regionally accredited colleges and universities, including up to 90 community college credits. In addition, Charter Oak State College recognizes and
awards credit for college-level fire and police training, college-level military training, prior learning through portfolio assessment and college-level examinations
such as CLEP and DANTES. Importantly, Charter Oak State College also recognizes and awards credit for the college-level courses offered by the
Public Safety Education Institute that have been evaluated and recommended for credit by the
National Program on Noncollegiate
Sponsored Instruction ("National PONSI"), a division of the Board of Regents of The University of the State of New York.
In addition to all general educational and liberal arts requirements, an "Academic Concentration" (36 credits) is also required to earn a bachelor's
degree from Charter Oak State College. Charter Oak State College offers an Academic Concentration in Public Safety Administration™ specifically
designed by the Public Safety Education Institute for public safety employees such as fire, police and military professionals. The Institute currently offers 12
courses recommended by National PONSI and Charter Oak State College for upper division college credit that have been designed as the core curriculum for
public safety students to
meet the Charter Oak State College requirements for an
Academic Concentration in Public Safety Administration™.
Federal and institutional financial aid are available through the Charter Oak State College Office of Financial Aid. Employer tuition reimbursement
is also completed through Charter Oak State College. |
